Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday to write about. This is when the houses we design and build are stretched to their limits.
Last year, in our 2023 Thanksgiving blog, we listed some common household traumas and solutions. You can find a link to that blog here.
But this year I thought it would be nice to just reflect upon the amazing industry we are in! We get to have a positive and personal impact on people’s holiday gatherings. As my husband and I have recently moved into a new home – I know many others are experiencing Thanksgiving in their new home for the first time. Of course, a new home is always exciting but even more so during the holidays.
Imagine the proud moment when your new homeowners are giving a tour of their new home to their in-laws?
- “This is my Messy Kitchen where I can hide all my counter clutter like the toaster, blender, coffee grinder and coffee maker.”
- “Check out the giant walk-in pantry – but don’t get lost in there!”
- “Feel free to grab your favorite beverage and take a seat at the island. Maybe you can remind me how you make your special pie.”
Okay – maybe they will enjoy showing off all the new finishes and features to make their jealous sibling even more envious.
- “Why don’t you pick out a bottle from the wine display?”
- “There’s no drinks? Oh – my kitchen has two refrigerators – one for food and one for beverages. Try the other one.” Play nice, kids.
Keeping the Peace
My favorite feature when we have a house full of family is the separate beverage station so social interaction can happen *after* that first cup of coffee.
Also needed is a little quiet get-away space when there’s too much family time. We have lots of outdoor living for quiet time – a sweater, a blanket, and a fire may be required this time of year.
Of course, new homes have clean everything (at least for now) and the latest energy saving appliances. You may not want to mention that you have an on-demand water heater as that may encourage super long showers.
What fun features do you have in your new homes that are brag worthy at Thanksgiving? I look forward to your emails.
Happy Thanksgiving and try not to eat too much. Cheers
